Membership is open to those involved or with an interest in on-site wastewater management in Ireland without restrictions in respect of background or qualification.

The model for IOWA is based on the US National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (NOWRA) and any similar EU organisations may be considered in future for possible asistance with conference speakers, professional standing and technical support and guidance.
- A membership fee of €50 is charged to fund activities
- Sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available (e.g. 6-monthly newsletter, conferences and an association website etc)
- IOWA is being structured as a Co-Op with details of income and expenditure audited and presented annually to the association AGM
